Sharlane Conner, a former student and instructor at SDS, is currently studying at The Ailey School’s Independent Study Program in New York City. Originally from New Bedford, MA, Sharlane began dancing at Kristine Couto’s Dance Studio. She also studied at the Dance Academy in Fall River and The Ailey School’s Summer Intensive Program in 2008.
Sharlane is versed in all genres of dance including jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, West African and modern. She has also studied Horton, Limon, Graham and Dunham techniques.
Sharlane is currently teaching a modern technique class at Queen’s Dance Center, where, as a student, she is also finding a love for salsa and Afro-Cuban!
In June of 2009, Sharlane graduated magna cum laude from Dean College in Franklin, MA, receiving her AA in Dance and the Trustee’s Prize for the School of Dance.
At Dean she performed in the Dance Team Show, The Fall Fest at The Ailey School and The Ailey School’s Summer Sizzler in 2008.
Recently, Sharlane has taught contemporary workshops at SDS and choreographed and performed in her piece “Fireflies” in our 2009 Dance Concert. Watch for her next piece, “Washed by the Water” in this years show in June.
We are all so proud of Sharlane and her accomplishments. She is a very dear friend of mine and we wish her all the best in her career. Congratulations Sharlane!
